Meet Masa

Hi, I'm Masa! I was born and raised in Kamakura — a beach town just an hour from Tokyo that was Japan's capital about 800 years ago — and there's nothing I love more than sharing my country: from the seat of a bicycle, on foot through Tokyo's backstreets, or around a table full of great local food.

My road here has been an adventure of its own: I've worked at Yellowstone and Grand Canyon National Parks in the U.S., at IBM in the Philippines, at the Consulate-General of Japan in Chicago with Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and at the outdoor company Patagonia.

As a National Government Licensed Guide-Interpreter — Japan's national qualification for professional tour guides — I guide multi-day cycling adventures all over Japan, private sightseeing tours in Tokyo, and — because eating is one of my favorite things in life — food tours where we hunt down the best ramen, izakaya, and hidden local restaurants together.

I'm also a serious trail runner — I've finished UTMB (Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc), the legendary 100-mile race around Mont Blanc. So whether you want to cruise or push your limits, I'll match your pace.

Every tour is personal. We stop where the view is good, eat where the locals eat, and move at a pace where you can actually feel Japan — its seasons, its people, and its stories.

  • One flat rate per group — couples, families, and groups of friends all welcome
  • Family-friendly by design — as a dad of a 10-year-old, I know the spots kids love

Cover more of Tokyo in a day — on two wheels.

We explore Tokyo on Docomo Bike Share — the red e-assist share bikes with docking stations all over the city. Riding lets us hop between neighborhoods, riversides, and parks that walking tours never reach. Please register and rent your bike in advance using the guides below (it's easy!), and I'll plan a safe, relaxed route for us.

  • Ride Tokyo's Docomo Bike Share e-assist bicycles — no rental shop needed
  • Relaxed pace on quiet backstreets, riversides, and parks
  • Route tailored to your interests and fitness level
  • I'll help you with the app and the bikes before we roll
